Resolution: A vitally important decision has been reached

Having just finished reacding one of the best fanfics I've yet read (definitely top 5), Beren's Gold Tinted Spectacles (http://www.schnoogle.com/authorLinks/Beren/Gold_Tinted_Spectacles/)
[highly reccommended, obviously], and under the lingering influence of the Draco Trilogy (http://www.schnoogle.com/authorLinks/Cassandra_Claire/), I have come to an important Resolution. [not a reference to Frances Potter's excellent but frustrationgly incomplete fic of the same name].

Here it is: No longer will charm, good looks, sense of humour, intelligence, a fondness for Terry Pratchett and so on be enough for Yours Truly. No indeed. To be considered adequate for Significant Other status, an aspiring individual must have....

Telepathy.

Seriously. It's really quite a ridiculously attractive quality. Especially if it's just the two of you who can communicate so. Who can go past someone who can communicate in italics? So, so attractive. And therefore an absolute prerequisite.

Some say that just conceivably I may have raised by standards just a little- a smidgin -too high. But really; why should I settle for second best?

So if anyone out there is charming and so on, and telepathic, then give me a call, otherwise, please pack your bags and go home.

Actually, it's terribly liberating, I urge you all to make similar resolutions. Instead of a number of optional variables (" He's great, but seriously, could I ever love a guy who reads Robin Hobb?") there's just the one question: "telepathic? No? Sod off then, there's a dear".

Adios for today, and remember, here at the IB, we can hear what you're thinking. But don't worry, we won't tell her.

Post the Third: Son of Post!

A paean on the subject of slash.

Firstly, on the ridiculously unlikely offchance that Cassandra Claire ever stumbles across this site,I'd like to take this chance to say this: I absolutely love you. Seriously.

For those ill-informed plebs among you who haven't read the Very Secret Diaries of the Lord of the Rings characters, I post this link: hie thee and read, and do not return unenlightened. http://www.ealasaid.com/misc/vsd/index.html

From there, one should progress to Theresa Green's Owner's Guide Series. (and here the story becomes one of the quest of The Author [that would be me] of discovery and personal growth and so on. I recount my progress to you, humble reader.)
http://www.henneth-annun.net/stories/story_sort.cfm?STAuthorID=664&CSCharID=0&STCategoryID=0&STGenreID=0

Now our Naive Young Heroine, reading these stories, notes the term "slash" - new to her innocent young eyes. Eager to learn, and hungry for knowledge (and hot hobbit action, obviously, with a little elf thrown in if possible), she sees mention of the Library of Moria (www.libraryofmoria.com) and continues to read avidly, blushing occassionally, [especially since she's doing most of this at work when she should be filing and so on, and in Mortal Fear that a Boss-Type Person would look over her shoulder at any moment].

And then our heroine thought: I wonder what else there is? She toys awhile with Pirates of the Carribean, but doesn't like the fact that stories either don't involve Will (and there isn't any Jack/Elizabeth, really, and she's not a Jack/Norrington fan) which is rare, or else do, and therefore spilt up Will from his One True Love Elizabeth. I'm all for mortal enemies and so on, but True Love ought not to be fucked with. [So to speak]

And so it occurred to Our Heroine, one day, as she idly trawled through some Crowley/Aziraphale drivel, that perhaps she ought to look into the whole Harry/Draco thing, and she never looked back. (except now, obviously, and sometimes when she was reading something particularly badly punctuated. [the real side effect of all this fanfic reading was to lead to Livid Rage and much pent up aggression regarding the wanton cruelty to the common comma and apostrophe that was rife in the fanfic world. Emphatic Capitalisation is one thing, typos are one thing, but persistently apostrophising your plurals should be punishable with thumbscrews]

And so we come to www.diagon.org and www.schnoogle.com and any number of other places.

Tune in next week to see fic recs that you aren't interested in, and won't read, but really should feel guilty about ignoring!

Post the second: the Saga Continues!

There, Emphatic Capitalisation as promised.

[Management would like to point out that the whole title box would be more amusing if it were not all automatically capitalised, and takes no responsibilty for the resulting Irony Leakage- ed.]

It has come to my attention that some people have expressed scepticism regarding the presence of IB fans before the creation of the actual IB. To these people I say; have you never been in a movie theatre when a preview is screened for a long-awaited sequel? Star Wars for instance? Have you not noticed that fans can be whipped into a frenzy merely by suggesting that the logo might be displayed? I laugh scorn at this suggestion. *laughs scorn*

Please feel free, by the way, to post comments. Everyone likes being showered with praise, and in this lone instance, Yours Truly is little different to the assembled masses.

Further, in explanation for the eccentric [read: wierd- ed.] URL of our beloved IB, the author submits for consideration 2 facts:
Firstly, that since over the holidays she became aware of Harry/Draco fanfic [read: slash, mmm... - ed.] she has had something of an unhealthy crush on a fictional character. Moreover a fictional version of a a fictional character. That is, even if the original books were real, the character as crushed still wouls not be, as he exists only in fanfic. The important thing here is that the author remains aware of the fictional nature of the character, and has maintained enough vestiges of dignity not to Mary Sue herself. Let us be grateful for small mercies.

Secondly, the time of first post. 2:30 am is by no stretch of the imagination a time condusive to rational thought.

Mercy is therefore humbly begged and accepted in advance. Thank you

the Inadvertent Blog begins!

So, humble IB (inadvertent blog) fans, after all this waiting, this, this right here, is the answer to your prayers.

No longer need you lie awake at night and think "gee, if only she had accidentally set up a blog when attempting merely to post a flippant reply to another blog!". It is here at last! The IB begins, and very likely will end, right here.

This, my friends, is an historic moment.

Bask in my reflected glory. And one day, tell your grandchildren.
